blessed union of confection and design

In what can truly be called a first for me (to my knowledge), one of my logo designs has been used as cake decoration. Congrats to Jackson progressive celebrities Brad "Kamikaze" Franklin and Funmi Folayan "Queen" Franklin on their recent marriage. For the reception, the groom decorated his cake with a version of the logo for Farish Street, Downtown Jackson's "little Beale St." currently under renovation. The logo was designed several years ago while I was at Maris, West and Baker, a Jackson ad agency. As I was thumbing through our weekly progressive paper, Jackson Free Press, I noticed a story on the marriage...and was surprised to see the cake adorned with the logo. Thanks to Mrs. Franklin for sending the photo of the cake to use in this post.

Chris, didn't I tell you that your logo was really tasty?

Chris, I am so glad that you reached out to me. We were always sold on using the logo for Kaze's cake. He never wanted anything else. And thank GOD for Iris who was able to do a replica of your work and make it nice and tasty. So, thanks to you for creating what will surely become a memorable logo in Mississippi, the South and then nationwide.

You are quite welcome, Mrs. Franklin. :) It was a tremendous honor to have my work used in such a way. And it is so incredibly exciting to see Jackson's downtown truly showing signs of life. King Edward and Farish Street are symbols as much as anything, and represent the health of our city. And now both are well on their way to becoming symbols of positivity, not decay. As long as we stay true to the heritage of our city in the process, I see nothing but positivity happening for Downtown Jackson.
