This is an excellent example of the power of a simple idea, executed quickly for zero dollars, which is to say that the strength of a simple idea is that it is scaleable - from DYI to high-production value custom photoshoots, the idea will translate.
This series was in response to the Ukraine war, we wanted to ask the question, what is life like for a child living in a bomb shelter with only concrete and cold steel between them and life-threatening danger? This was a very real existence for these children and we wanted to tell the story in a purely visual way that people could instantly connect with. Instead of being able to pick out cool colors for their room like so many kids do, these kids would only see the harsh monotones of a structure intended only to protect.

These probably aren’t the colors you would choose for your child’s room. But it’s the reality for children in Ukraine. Over the past year, they've spent an average of 900 hours hiding in bunkers — more than a month of their life.
The war has been catastrophic for children's mental health. That's why we're helping them cope with therapy; singing, art and dance to relieve stress and tension; play-based programs; and more. ❤️ 🎵 🎨
